Meat samples came from 10 butcher shops and supermarkets in the greater Providence area of Rhode Island, including 12 ground beef samples. Samples included both conventional and all natural meat products.

Using sterile technique, packages were opened and meat samples were used to make media and broth cultures, including a VRE screen agar plate.
