In this study, the prevalence and molecular characteristics of blaCTX-M-positive E. coli from a large-scale Vietnamese chicken farm and the community was investigated and the transmission of CTX-M-producing E. coli among workers and chickens on the farm was evaluated.

A total of 149 faecal swabs were collected every 6 months three times from June 2013 to June 2014 in Bavi Province in the Red River Delta region of Vietnam. Human and chicken faecal samples were collected from the biggest poultry farm, which houses 5000 chickens and was maintained by eight workers.
