This study aims to determine the prevalence, phenotypic tetracycline resistance, and the presence of the Tet(O) gene in Campylobacter strains isolated from retail markets in Lima, Peru.

A total of 250 samples of chicken leg quarter cuts with skin were obtained from traditional markets (n = 120; distributed in 70, 30, and 20 from the districts of Independencia, San Martín de Porres, and Santa Anita, respectively) and supermarkets (n = 130; distributed in 50, 40 and 40 from the districts of San Borja, Santiago de Surco and Surquillo, respectively) in the province of Lima, Peru.
