The objectives of this study were to compare (i) the microbiological quality and (ii) the antimicrobial resistance patterns of E. coli strains on conventional poultry (chicken, turkey and quail) and organic chicken retail samples in North-Western Spain. In addition, the results of the disc diffusion method and the commercially available miniaturized “Sensi Test Gram-negative” system were compared.

120 poultry carcasses, including organic chicken (n ¼ 30), conventional chicken (n ¼ 30), conventional turkey (n ¼ 30) and conventional quail (n ¼ 30) were purchased at random from eight retail outlets in the Province of León in North-Western Spain
