Eight 4-week-old Large White weaned piglets that had never received antibiotics were used for the experiments.Amoxicillin and Algo-Bio1 were administered at a dose of 1 mL/10 kg body weight for 5 days (D0–D4). Four groups of piglets were used as follows: the first group of piglets (n = 2) received amoxicillin (Vetrimoxin1; Ceva Santé Animale, Libourne, France) by the intramuscular route; the second group of piglets (n = 2) received amoxicillin (Cofamox1 20; Merial, Lyon, France) by the oral route; the third group of piglets (n = 2) received Algo-Bio (Algo-Bio Searup Still1; Olmix Group, Bréhan, France) by the oral route; and the fourth group of piglets (n = 2) did not received antibiotics during the experimental study (controls).
Faecal samples were collected from each piglet on the first day of treatment prior to treatment initiation (D0) and after initiation of treatment on the second, third, fourth and fifth days of treatment (D1–D4).
