290 Salmonella isolates from apparently healthy pigs were available from a farm-based cross-sectional study representative of the entire fattening swine population conducted in Spain from March, 2003 to February, 2004.

10 faecal samples were collected from 10 different pens containing apparently healthy pigs close to market weight in a total of 232 fattening units distributed all over the country. 192 Salmonella isolates obtained from faecal samples of finishing pigs suffering from diarrhoea submitted to the Laboratory of Infectious Diseases in the Veterinary Faculty at the University of Leo´n.
