A cross-sectional study on 99 egg producing farms wascarried out from May 2007 to April 2008. After selectionof the farms from a census list by stratified two-stagecluster sampling, 69% of the farmers agreed to partici-pate. Fourteen organic flocks, 33 free-range flocks, 42flocks with access to an outdoor scratching area and 10indoor flocks were included. Each farm was visited once at the end of production,on average 2 weeks before flock depopulation.
