Reference

Swabs of cloacal faeces were taken from 115 healthy farm chickens, 60 healthy domestic chickens and 64 sick farm chickens infected with avian influenza belonging respectively to five large farms, six houses and two large farms located in Bangkok and surrounding areas. These chickens were 45-60 days old. In general, farm chickens were fed with commercially available compounded animal feeds to which antimicrobial agents, especially tetracyclines, had been added, while domestic chickens were fed with household meals, e.g. rice and vegetables. The farm chickens with avian influenza were treated with common, low-priced antimicrobial drugs, e.g. tetracycline and sulfonamides.
