Fecal samples were collected from apparently healthypigs at 250 farms (one pig per farm) by the Livestock Hy-giene Service Centers (LHSCs) in 46 of 47 prefecturesacross Japan between 2004 and 2007 under the JVARMprogram. Six to eight farms were randomlyselected in each prefecture and twoE. coliisolates fromeach fecal sample per farm were collected. Data on the useof veterinary antimicrobial products within the previous 6months as a binary response were collected from interviewswith farmers using a structured questionnaire administeredby veterinarians in the prefectural LHSCs.
