From October 2006 toSeptember 2007, a total of 194 whole chicken carcasses (conven-tionally raised,n141; organically raised,n53) were ran-domly collected from 27 retail grocery stores belonging to sevensupermarket chains in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. These stores wereidentified from the supermarket chains’ official Web sites and con-sisted of 1 organic store and 26 conventional ones. Sampling visitswere made every other week for a total of 25 times.

On eachsampling day, 3 randomly selected conventional stores and thesingle organic store were sampled. From each store, two (occa-sionally one) prepackaged, fresh, whole chicken carcasses wererandomly selected.
